Festive Claims

Whether you own a hair salon, tattoo studio or aesthetic clinic. It’s important to be aware of the claims that commonly arise over the festive period.

Here are our top 5 Common Christmas Claims:

1. Candles

Naked flames. Although candles create the perfect, cosy atmosphere for Christmas and are a great addition to your salon, naked flames are one of the biggest risks to your business. It is vital that candles are not left to burn whilst unsupervised and that you don’t attach candles to your Christmas tree.

2. Faulty Lights

A nice way to make your studio look festive, but also one of the main causes of fire during the festive period, you should always ensure that your fairy lights are switched off before leaving them unattended. It’s also a good idea to check that your lights conform to the British Standard (BS EN 60598). Recently, Christmas shoppers have been warned against purchasing potentially dangerous electrical products via third-parties on popular websites. It’s always a good idea to check the cable before first turning the lights on, as it may have sustained damage whilst being in storage. Click here to read an in-depth guide about Christmas light safety.

3. Falling off ladders

Although it is general common sense, ensure that you take extra care when climbing ladders. Whilst putting up (or taking down) your Christmas decorations, make sure the ladder is stable before climbing and that you are always supervised. Whether this be indoors or out.

4. Burst Pipes

December. Temperatures in the UK often drop below freezing. This is the time when your water pipes are most likely to burst. Ensure that you keep your home or business as warm as possible, even if you are out. In addition to this, it is a good idea to install lag pipes, which insulate your water pipes and help to delay freezing.

5. Falling through the ceiling

It’s likely that you store your Christmas decorations in the attic, and you have the arduous task of getting them down every year. Insurance companies often receive claims where people step between the joists in their loft and put a foot through the floor, damaging the ceiling beneath them. It is important that you go up prepared and that your attic is sufficiently lit.
